Thymulin is a naturally occurring peptide hormone produced by the thymus, studied for its role in immune-cell regulation and, in some research, sleep and inflammatory signaling.
Thymulin (also called FTS, "facteur thymique sérique") is a genuinely well-characterized, internationally-recognized zinc-dependent nonapeptide hormone, discovered by Jean-François Bach and colleagues in Paris in 1975 — distinct from "Thymalin," a differently-named calf-thymus extract bioregulator from the Russian Khavinson research lineage (see the Khavinson bioregulator peptides on this site for that separate research program). Thymulin has real, independently-published Western literature behind it, unlike most of the compounds in that other family.
Thymulin's defining feature: its biological activity is strictly zinc-dependent — without zinc bound in the molecule, it's biologically inactive. It induces T-cell differentiation and enhances multiple T-cell subset functions, with suppressor T-cell effects specifically flagged by its discoverers as the most clinically promising application.
