Benefits

Hydrafinil (fluorenol) is a modafinil analog studied almost entirely in animals. Mouse study: eugeroic (wakefulness-promoting) efficacy was reported as 39% greater than modafinil at the doses compared — but whether this translates to humans is unknown, since no human efficacy study exists.

The one real human data point — not an efficacy study

A pilot study gave three healthy male volunteers a single 50mg oral dose of hydrafinil specifically to characterize its urinary metabolites for anti-doping detection purposes — not to test effects or safety. Knoop et al., Drug Test Anal, 2021 This confirms the compound has been given to humans and eliminated via specific metabolites, but says nothing about efficacy or safety at that or any other dose. No long-term or short-term human safety data exists.

Frequently asked questions

Which lasts longer, this or Fladrafinil?+

Hydrafinil is the shorter-acting of the two — commonly cited around 3-4.5 hours of wakefulness, versus Fladrafinil's longer window. That shorter duration is part of the appeal: less risk of it interfering with sleep later in the day.

Is it the same as modafinil?+

Not exactly — it's actually a metabolite of modafinil, meaning your body produces some of it naturally when you take modafinil. As a standalone compound it's positioned as milder and faster-clearing than modafinil itself.
