BPC-157's Human Evidence Gap: What the Research Actually Shows

BPC-157 has zero peer-reviewed human clinical trials. That single fact gets lost in a lot of the online discussion, so it is worth spelling out exactly what the evidence base actually looks like. The number that circulates most often is "100+ studies." That is technically accurate, but almost all of those studies are preclinical, meaning they were conducted in rats, rabbits, or in-vitro tissue samples rather than in people. A 2025 systematic review examined 36 published studies spanning from 1993 to 2024. Of those 36, exactly one was a clinical study. The other 35 were preclinical. The entirety of the published human data amounts to a small IRB-approved intravenous safety pilot, showing tolerability at doses up to 20mg with no serious adverse events reported. That is the complete human safety record as it currently stands. None of this makes the animal data meaningless. Three decades of preclinical tissue-repair research is a genuine signal, not nothing. But "well-studied" and "proven in humans" are two different claims, and BPC-157 currently only earns the first one. This distinction matters more than usual right now, given that BPC-157 was in front of the FDA's compounding advisory committee this year, and the evidence gap described above is exactly what FDA scientists have flagged in their own review.
